Writing is one thing, the rest is a mystery.

In the previous article, I wrote that I wasn’t one of the fortunate one’s to begin my journey to publish in the best way possible. Most beginning authors are ignorant of what they should do to begin. We are easy to trust those who we feel should be in our best interest. Perhaps they are, but are too business driven and that is giving them credit for caring enough to truly give us the best advice and guidance. One thing I must have not understood was that being self-published doesn’t mean we are getting in the best position to keep what is ours and get assistance when needed. “Congratulations, you are now a published author!” Wonderful to hear, but what about getting it into people’s hands. Suggestions? They are willing to help, but for a fee. You will even hear from those who can’t wait to tell you where you went wrong. Some of them want to help, but for a fee. Others offer to interview you for free( yes!), but by then… do you trust them?

The best thing for you is to do research into becoming a published author. Find out all you can and talk to those you may know who have been successful. I have published and I am better for it, but I am scarred from trying to believe in people who have the knowledge I need. If you believe in prayer and in the one who truly cares, feel free to ask Him.

For now, do as our slogan says, “Think with the mind/Write from the heart”.

More to come… J.W.
